International Brachypodium Research Conference 2027
Meeting once every two years, the IBRC conference brings the Brachypodium community together for discussion and worldwide collaboration on key temperate grass research questions. Whether you use Brachypodium as your main research model or as a species for functional validation of candidate genes, we would be very happy to welcome you to Liège, Belgium, from 28 June to 2 July 2027.

Venue & Travel
Venue
All sessions take place in the Academic Hall, the University’s most prestigious conference room that is located in the heart of the city. It stands in the oldest building the University has raised, put up shortly after its foundation in 1817; neoclassical in style, it is listed as exceptional Walloon heritage following its restoration. The adjoining Salle des Professeurs will host the coffee breaks and the poster session.

Getting to Liège
Belgium has three official languages, so city names change from one region to the next: Liège is Luik in Dutch and Lüttich in German. You might see either of these three on signs and timetables.
BY TRAINLiège has three railway stations:
Liège-Guillemins is the main station and a high-speed hub (Eurostar and regular trains link Liège directly to Germany, France, the Netherlands, etc). Its Calatrava-designed building is a landmark in its own right. From that station, we advise you to use the Liège tram, which will get you directly from the train station to a tram stop (Liège Opéra Stop) at a 5 min walk from the conference location.
Liège-Saint-Lambert is the closest to the city center (less than 250 m from Place Saint-Lambert) and is located at a 10-15 min walk from the conference venue.
Liège-Carré, located right by the lively Carré district in the heart of town, is at a 15 min walk distance from the conference location.
BY PLANE
Brussels Airport (Zaventem) is the main international airport in Belgium. Take a train and connect at Leuven or Brussels-Nord to Liège-Guillemins; two trains per hour link Brussels and Liège, and the journey takes a little over an hour.
Brussels South Charleroi Airport is the second international airport, served by low-cost carriers such as Ryanair, Wizz Air and TUI fly. A shuttle connects the airport to Charleroi-Sud station, 7 km away, with onward trains to Liège.
Liège Airport (Bierset) is the local airport, but with very few commercial flights. From there, the TEC bus line 57 runs to Liège-Guillemins station (not on weekends or public holidays), while line 53 goes to the city centre.
BY CARLiège is easily reached via an extensive motorway network: the E40, E25, E42 and E313.

Nestled in the heart of Europe, Liège is a warm and vibrant Walloon city where a rich industrial heritage meets a lively student atmosphere, world-class gastronomy and centuries of art and architecture. Between conference sessions, take time to wander its historic streets, climb the famous Montagne de Bueren, browse one of Europe's oldest Sunday markets along the Meuse, and treat yourself to the city's legendary sweet specialities. Easily reached by high-speed train from Brussels, Paris, Cologne and Amsterdam, Liège is the perfect setting to combine great science with genuine Belgian conviviality.

Leuven (approx. 40 min by train) | a charming historic university town, with a breathtaking Gothic town hall and a lively student atmosphere.
Brussels (approx. 1 h) | The vibrant capital: the Grand-Place, world-class museums, and the Art Nouveau of Victor Horta.
Ghent (approx. 1 h 30) | a medieval gem of canals, waterside cafés and a buzzing student scene.
Bruges (approx. 2 h) | The "Venice of the North," with picture-perfect canals and cobbled medieval streets.
